Bigger Than Boise April Ives and Cindy Barber P.O. Box 48 Red Hill, PA 18076 215-541-0323
BIOGRAPHY
Defying the confines of any one particular genre of music, the sound of BIGGER THAN BOISE can best be described as contemporary acoustic. Their music combines influences of jazz, rock, blues, folk and classical. Stage performances offer an interesting blend of original and sixties music interlaced with a touch of comedy and trivia and are enjoyed by audiences of all ages. They believe in giving their audiences a complete evening of entertainment, encouraging audience participation. The duo consists of Cindy Barber and April Ives, both singers, songwriters, and guitarists.
Cindy Barber, a native of King of Prussia, PA, taught herself to play guitar at the age of 13 and began writing music seven years later. Her influences range from the Beatles to k.d.lang, Buddy Holly to Joni Mitchell and beyond. Cindy handles most of the lead vocals and rhythm guitar for the duo and has written most of the original songs they perform. She has been performing solo and in bands for more than a decade appearing at venues in New York, Los Angeles and throughout the greater Philadelphia area.
April Ives, a native of Allentown, PA, began formal guitar lessons at the age of six. Although she enjoyed her studies of folk and modern rock, it was classical music that truly inspired her. April began classical guitar tutelage at the age of 12, continuing her studies as a classical guitar perfomance major at Heidelberg College in Tiffin, OH. Her current style incorporates all of her former training. April handles most of the back up vocals and lead guitar work for the duo, as well as serving as booking agent and promoter.
Cindy Barber and April Ives merged talents in March of 1996, forming BIGGER THAN BOISE. As they continue to explore the blending of their talents, their sound continues to grow, reflecting all their combined influences. BIGGER THAN BOISE currently is performing at venues throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
